Description of module content:

This module covers the principles and concepts related to the capture, management, and storage of knowledge. During this module students will learn different approaches to knowledge management and both technical and social knowledge management infrastructures. A range of techniques will be covered for the creation, capture, classification, exchange, dissemination and use of knowledge for competitive advantage and corporate growth. Throughout the module, students will develop understandings of knowledge strategies and knowledge continuity management that can be used in the creation of knowledge management plans.

Face To Face Lecture 20 Lectures will be delivered in person and will be interactive. Students are expected to read preparatory materials prior to each lecture. Lecture slides will be made available in the week prior to the lecture.
Face To Face Tutorial 20 Tutorials will involve individual and group tasks designed to apply the principles covered in the lectures. The emphasis will be on problem-solving and practical application of theory. There may be some preparatory work prior to each tutorial session.
Online Guided independent study 160 Students will be expected to review lecture notes, complete preparatory tasks for tutorials and read around the subject. Suggested readings and websites will be made available by the lecturer at the end of each lecture. Students are also encouraged to do their own research to identify suitable reading material in addition to the reading lists provided by the lecturers.

Reflective Log 40 1~2~3~4~5 Week 7 , WORDS= 3,000 Students will create entries for a knowledge repository based on selected weekly themes from the module. Repository entries will consider relevant information and detail from the lectures, tutorials, and self-guided study activities that should be captured for knowledge documents.
Report 40 1~2~3~4~5 Week 13 , WORDS= 3,000 words Working in small groups, students will create a 3,000-word report and presentation on behalf of a fictional client. Details of the client and their needs will be presented in class and via Moodle as the module unfolds. This group assessment will apply students' understanding and evaluation of knowledge management theories, concepts, and principles in the creation of an executive report that will be presented to the fictional client.
Reflective Log 20 1~2~3~4~5 Exam Period , WORDS= 1,000 words This coursework is an individual assessment that reflects on understandings of knowledge management theories, concepts, and principles as they relate to the individual's own behaviours and practices. This reflective log should demonstrate an understanding of how a broad range of knowledge management concepts could be applied to individual practices in a range of settings and will include a short statement of individual contributions to the group project.
