What you will learn and what this module is about:

This module explores the relationship between materials and structural specifications to environmental factors, human factors and location. You will consider cost variations and ethical issues in the procurement of materials and location of manufacturing services.

Description of module content:

Through studio based activities you will examine industrial case studies with regard to materials, manufacturing, structural integrity and use (ergonomics). You will explore and summarise the impact of the geography of procurement on carbon neutral design and related ethical issues. The analysis and data collection will underpin design activities and you will use CAD (3D modelling) to detail and explain design concepts

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
LO1. Compare local and overseas sources for materials and manufacture.
LO2. Explain key principles of ethical design practice.
LO3. Utilise a problem solving approach to space planning and human factors.
LO4. Apply the principles of structural design within a creative outcome.
LO5. Use 3D CAD modelling to illustrate design detailing.
