What you will learn and what this module is about:

In this module you will develop your understanding of the Higher Education context in the UK, and the role of the academic member of staff in developing student learning.
You will have the opportunity to use a range of learning and teaching techniques. You will learn about different teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, projects and have the opportunity to try this out in your own teaching practice, to develop active and independent learning in the students.
In your teaching, learning and assessment role within a Higher Education level setting you will explore the principles of Higher Education curriculum design, planning and provision, and develop an understanding of the importance of alignment of assessment to learning outcomes. You will develop your academic practice through reflection and feedback on teaching and learning contexts.

Description of module content:

Current issues in Higher Education in the UK and overseas.
Models of learning styles and motivation.
Classroom practice.
Learning aims and outcomes.
Developing active and independent learning in students.
Session planning.
Learning and teaching methods and media.
Research informed teaching.
Scholarly activity of "enquiry" action research.
Principles of assessment for learning, including referencing and plagiarism practices.
Educational design and constractive alignment

LO3: Demonstrate appropriate judgement in the planning and execution of learning, teaching and assessment provision

LO4: Critically reflect on the principles and processes of assessment for learning in Edinburgh Napier and compare and contrast it with your current practice
