Description of module content:

This module begins with a discussion of the cultural diversity phenomenon, a day-to-day reality that brings both challenges and opportunites to today?s workplace. Approaches adopted by practitioners to managing cultural diversity will be critically examined and compared, with a particular emphasis on intercultural team-building. The module content then focuses on intercultural competence, an element that is central to the intercultural team-building agenda. Perspectives and insights will be drawn from relevant disciplines, such as intercultural communication, cross-cultural management and education. Participants will consider ways of cultivating their own intercultural competence as well as facilitating others? intercultural competence development especially in work-based contexts. Participants are encouraged to collaboratively create a peer-supported learning environment and reflect upon their own intercultural learning in this environment.

Face To Face Seminar 36 This module consists of three-hour seminars combining lecture and workshop. Each seminar begins with a short lecture on a chosen theme that addresses cultural diversity, intercultural competence or intercultural training.
Online GROUPIND_STUDY 14 You will take part in a range of learner-centred activities to extend the exploration of the theme(s) by establishing a peer-supported learning environment. The activities include discussion, case study, simulation and (intercultural) training practice - conducted individually, in pairs or in small groups.
Online Guided independent study 150 You will be encouraged to seek broader and deeper understandings of the themes studied by exploring scholarly and practical resources in relevant areas as well as the cultural diversity they themselves bring to their learning context. Additionally, you will keep a learning journal since the early stage of the module, which will form the basis for your reflections vis-à-vis intercultural learning (to be recorded in the portfolio).

The portfolio will require you to deliverin-depth reflections with reference to your own practice (learning journals to be attached to the portfolio) and relevant literature.
