Embedding of employability/ PDP/ scholarship skills
The employability of students is enhanced in this module through the use of case study exercises, team work and guest speakers. The students' scholarship skills are encouraged through use of the research literature.

Assessment (formative and summative)
Coursework is based on one written report and two practical assessments each aligned to all LOs each of which are primarily formative in nature, although specific theoretical understanding and skills in presenting a line of argument in a persuasive manner will require to be demonstrated in the written report. The examination covers all LOs.

Research/ teaching linkages
The module leader is an active researcher in this area. Guest speakers with research backgrounds will also contribute to the module. Core to the students' private study are a number of high level academic papers.

Supporting equality and diversity
A variety of teaching styles will be used to accommodate students with different learning styles. Students will be encouraged to work with others outside their usual circle of friends when completing class exercises. This will promote inclusion.

Internationalisation
Knowledge Management is a particular issue for large distributed organisations operating in a global business environment and this will be reflected in the module content and its delivery.

What you will learn and what this module is about:

The main topics covered in this popular School of Computing module are types of knowledge, knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, knowledge networking, online communities, social and intellectual capital, knowledge asset mapping and knowledge management strategy. This is a highly participative module. The lively tutorials are based around the completion of group exercises in class that follow on from weekly background reading completed in private study time.

Description of module content:

Approaches to knowledge management
Knowledge capital.
Knowledge management infrastructure: technical and social.
Techniques for the creation, capture, classification, exchange, dissemination and use of knowledge for competitive advantage and corporate growth.
