Module Organiser:
Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Classes are in tutorial form and highly interactive. Emphasis is placed on practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills using the resources of the language labs and the languages server. Extensive use of WebCT Vista in conjunction with these resources facilitates practice, revision and independent learning.
Informal formative feedback is given continuously in the interactive classes, via written homework and on practice presentations.

Key employability skills embedded in the module are: general communication skills; presentation skills; IT skills

Assessment (formative and summative);

Formative feedback is given on the basis of class activities and guided learning. Summative assessments take place in weeks 13 (listening and presentation) and 14/15 (reading and writing).

Research/ teaching linkages;

The module content and delivery is based on current research and best practice in language teaching and applied linguistics.

Supporting equality and diversity;

Materials are provided in hard copy and on WebCT. The languages server facilitates access to language learning materials across the university. The assessments are designed to be accessible to students from a range of different backgrounds and first languages. Student Support Services provides extra support as required.

Internationalisation:
The module provides an entry into another culture and fosters understanding and integration.

What you will learn and what this module is about:

This module develops specialist language usage for professional and business purposes. It develops your understanding of Spanish society and economy with a particular focus on the business background.

Description of module content:

Consolidation and extension of more complex tenses and structures; lexis and strategies for giving successful presentations; vocabulary and structures relating to business and professional life and Spanish's economy.

LO1: exploit a wide range of simple and more complex structures to maintain interaction and complete simple tasks in Spanish
LO2: show a secure grasp of basic grammar
LO3: write correctly on a prepared topic
LO4: deliver a prepared presentation on a business or professional topic and answer simple questions
LO5: understand simple authentic spoken passages in Spanish
LO6: understand simple authentic texts in Spanish
