Theories of ageing: physical, psychological and social; aspects of physical and psychological health and ill health, current health and nursing issues, care priorities, assessment and analysis of health needs, ethical, legal and moral issues in relation to growing older. The module content will be influenced strongly by current drivers such as Working with Older People in Scotland - A Framework for Mental Health Nurses (2008), Working towards recovery and Promoting Mental Health and Well-being in Later Life (2006) and the Senses Framework.There will be an emphasis on values-based, person-centred and recovery focused approaches to thehealth promotion of and delivery of care to older people with acute and long-standing ill-health issues eg chronic health problems such as stroke and mental health issues such as depression, alcohol and drug misuse and dementia. Other topics covered will include: values and attitudes: equality and diversity: age-related discrimination empowerment and participation: service user and carer involvement; sharing positive risk-taking; compassionate care and legal and ethical issues
