Description of module content:

On this module you will gain a greater understanding about the theoretical principles that influence research and the design of research projects and clinical trials. This will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how the design of research can underpin the development of research. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills to critique published research and its relevance to practice. You will learn how to interpret statistical analyses and qualitative data analysis. By the end of this module you will have a clear overview of research paradigms and research design, you will understand the importance of evidence based practice and learn skills to be able to undertake critical appraisal of evidence.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critique the theory underpinning the research process
LO2: Critically evaluate different research paradigms and approaches in terms of their appropriateness to address specific research questions
LO3 Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of methods required for presentation, analysis, and interpretation of research data.
LO4: Review and appraise critically published research and interpretation of new research in the context of existing knowledge and the hierarchy of evidence
LO5: Exercise critical judgement to determine the appropriateness and quality of evidence which informs and advances professional practice within clinical research
