Description of module content:

Through engaging in a work placement or work based learning experience related to the module you will explore issues such as, evidence based-practice, engagement with partners and people, resources and reporting, professional relationships, effective communication, self-reflection, observation and evaluation of practice with respect to contemporary literature, quality assurance, governance, monitoring and evaluation of injury and/or performance, physical activity and health or sport opportunities, terminology, exercise screening, exercise assessment, functional assessment, targeted and tailored interventions, person-centred interventions, data collection and reporting, monitoring athletes, safety considerations; delegated responsibility, professional boundaries, continuing professional development. These components may be related to the area in which you are working. You will relate your work experience to the academic content of your MSc programme and reflect on the value of prior learning. You will focus on self-assessment, write personal learning outcomes, and engage in reflective practice to enhance confidence and employability. Reflective practice and critical thinking are key to your submissions for this module.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate critical thinking in relation to academic, intellectual, personal and professional needs in the development of an appropriate learning agreement

LO2: Apply knowledge and skills to practice through a work based learning approach within a professional level context, examining the relevance of associated key contemporary themes

LO3: Produce a portfolio of evidence to meet the outcomes in the Learning Agreement and use an appropriate reflective model to evaluate your personal development

LO4: Use a range of skills and resources to communicate with peers, colleagues and specialists as appropriate

Face To Face Tutorial 4 These face to face tutorial sessions are focused on the overarching aims and objectives of the module and provide direct support and peer discussion around the development of the learning agreement and learning outcomes. Resources via the leganto list available on Moodle will be referred to here in support of the development of your learning agreement.
Independent Learning Tutorial 10 These weekly tutorial sessions provide an opportunity for you to update your module tutor on your progress, discuss how the achievement of your learning outcomes is progressing, and to identify and reflect on how you will develop your final portfolio
Other Work based learning 80 The work based learning aspect of this module is where you will develop your learning according to your needs as you have identified within your learning agreement. You may have decided to access a work placement opportunity, or you may have chosen to focus on upskilling yourself using different methods. The approximation of 80 hours is there to provide notional guidance, and can be fully placement based (one or more hosts), partially placement, partially desk-based, or fully desk-based.
Online Guided independent study 106 These hours relate to the background work you will put into the development of your learning agreement and learning outcomes, the required upskilling you may require following or prior to your WBL opportunity, and to focus on a continual self-reflection throughout the trimester to enhance your learning, and to inform your final portfolio
