Description of module content:

This module introduces you to the key principles of financial and management accounting used for effective planning, and decision-making. You will learn how to prepare and interpret the primary financial statements, understand segmental reporting, and perform financial statement analysis to evaluate business performance. The module also examines the role of management accounting, including cost classification and cost behaviour, cost–volume–profit (CVP) analysis, limiting factor analysis, and identifying relevant costs for decision-making. You will develop practical skills in investment appraisal, planning and budgeting, and preparing fixed and flexible budgets. Finally, you will explore performance measurement techniques such as return on investment (ROI) and residual income, and learn how the Balanced Scorecard integrates financial and non-financial measures to assess overall organisational performance.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Calculate and explain the significance of key ratios for assessing the financial position of the firm.

Face To Face Tutorial 18 In the tutorials, you will apply your knowledge from lectures through practical exercises and case studies. You will also strengthen your understanding of how financial information supports business decisions. These activities will prepare you effectively for the upcoming assessments.

Report 40 1~2~4 Week 8 , WORDS= 2000 words You will prepare a report about a company’s performance (indicated by the module leader) based on topics covered in the financial accounting part of the module. Your report will include all of the financial ratios covered in the class.
Centrally Time Tabled Examination 60 1~2~3 Exam Period HOURS= 2 hours The centrally timetabled examination will cover all topics discussed in class in both Financial Accounting and Management Accounting topics. You will be requested to give answers to both numerical and theoretical questions and exercises.
