Description of module content:

The module will explore the practice of good financial management within companies, to equip you to take on the role of the financial manager in a contemporary firm. You will learn about the role of the financial function and the impact of the economic environment on the financial management. You will then learn about the investment decisions company directors make, and the techniques used to do this. We will then consider the types of finance open to companies, their attributes, and the different costs and risks of each type. We then consider the cost of capital and asset valuation, and treasury risk management, before finishing with an overview of the causes of Foreign Exchange risk and techniques used to manage these risks.Throughout the module we consider the extent to which real life practice has been shaped by theoretical developments and explore why on some occasions practice has little resemblance to the sound academic theories that exist.
