Description of module content:

Students will learn about the presence of a wide range of financial assets, whereby eachfinancial asset offers a different combination of potential benefits and risks. Due tocontinuous innovations, the choice of investment instruments is continually widening andsuch instruments are growing in sophistication. Investment management involvesselecting appropriate instruments and building investment portfolios to suit investors?varying needs. The module presents a blend of theory and key aspects of currentinvestment practices. It will cover topics related to investments in equities, bonds, andderivatives.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically analyse factors affecting return and risk.

LO2: Analyse and interpret financial information as well as to apply statistical techniques to inform investment decisions and strategies.

LO3: Evaluate investment performance by applying different measures and techniques.

LO4: Analyse and apply use of derivatives in investment management.

LO5: Critically analyse current issues in investment management with references to academic literature.
