Description of module content:

Students will learn about the presence of a wide range of financial assets, whereby each
financial asset offers a different combination of potential benefits and risks. Due to
continuous innovations, the choice of investment instruments is continually widening and
such instruments are growing in sophistication. Investment management involves
selecting appropriate instruments and building investment portfolios to suit investors’
varying needs. The module presents a blend of theory and key aspects of current
investment practices. It will cover topics related to investments in equities, bonds, and
derivatives.

LO1: critically analyse factors affecting return and risk
LO2: analyse and interpret financial information as well as to apply statistical techniques
to inform investment decisions and strategies
LO3: evaluate investment performance by applying different measures and techniques
LO4: analyse and apply use of derivatives in investment management
LO5: critically analyse current issues in investment management with references to
academic literature
