Description of module content:

Diabetes and its diagnosis; relevant anatomy and physiology; diet; health education and lifestyle issues; diagnostic approaches; emergencies and complications; learning theories and their application to teaching packages; pregnancy, adolescence, ethnicity and diabetes; self management

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Recognise the clinical presentation of diabetes mellitus and relate the findings to the different types of diabetes
LO2: Relate the prescribed treatment plan to the individual patient's diagnosis and lifestyle requirements
LO3: Evaluate health education strategies, of specific client groups, in relation to self-management of diabetes and health
LO4: Recognise the acute and long-term complications of diabetes, and analyse the approaches to their prevention or treatment
LO5: Illustrate the impact and management of diabetes on psychological and emotional wellbeing
LO6: Interpret the care of clients with diabetes to compare local practice with national evidence-based recommendations
