Description of module content:

Surveyors are essential professionals for organisations, not only in purchasing or the pre-acquisition stage but in establishing the condition of buildings both commercial and domestic. They inform clients expectations, giving advice on building defects, environmental sustainability, and cutting-edge technology to create efficient and future-ready homes and workplaces. In this module, you will tackle real world challenges such as: Client instructions – How do you ensure this meets their expectations? Condition reports – What happens when a critical system fails, and how to best report building faults? Health and Safety – What are the regulatory requirements for a practicing surveyor when inspecting a building. Design and the construction of buildings- How to we take this into consideration when undertaking defects analysis to deliver a tailored solution giving longevity within cost parameters – What instruments might surveyors use in the detailed building inspection, and what are the limitations of this equipment. – How surveying contribute to the efficient overseeing of renovations, expansions, or sustainability projects? Technology Integration –By the end of this module, you will recognise the contribution that Surveyors make as an integral part of the built environment and its specific role in shaping our economic future.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Gain an appreciation of sustainability challenges for the built environment.

LO2: Relate the appropriate mechanisms to achieve low carbon buildings.

LO3: Describe through examples, appropriate procedures and considerations required to be applied in building inspection techniques.

LO4: Demonstrate an understanding of Health & Safety relating to the construction profession.

LO5: Use of measurement equipment and techniques in a proficient manner; interpret drawings and other resource material.
