Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
Lectures deal with the basics of the subject and seek to convey the knowledge base to the students. Tutorials and practicals are used to encourage students to practice mensuration skills applied to land and buildings. They are also used to introduce the students to working and collaborating in groups. Students are encouraged to read outside the teaching notes and have weekly directed reading specified in the module study guide. The ability to measure/quantify buildings and construction work are mandatory core skills for Chartered Surveyors and a module fundamental to a career in the Built Environment. The module addresses a number of the requirements of the RICS Building Surveying APC Pathway Guide at levels 1 & 2 for Measurement of Land and Property eg:Level 1Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and limitations of measurement relevant to your area of practice.Level 2Apply your knowledge to undertake measurement. The lecture and tutorial materials are available in hard and electronic format (on VLE) to cater for the diverse student group. Timetabled academic supervision is available each taught week of the module to support students.
The provision of formative feedback is a key component of the LTA approach underpinning this module. Formative feedback opportunities are built into each tutorial where you will be encourage to engage with and reflect upon module themes via a series of different learning tasks. These provide opportunities for the module tutor to help with your understanding an interpretation of module topics. This formative feedback is delivered in class time in response to student contributions both individually and collectively. Formative feedback arises via the discussion and analysis of tutorial questions, practical questions, practical examples/cases and associated reflection on a range of learning tasks.
The module is assessed by one piece of coursework which is designed to develop the students' practical and written skills.
