Description of module content:

In this module you will learn about the external business environment including what types of company exist, how they are structured and how this affects their ability to raise finance. You will learn about aspects of applied economics and budgeting in the construction industry and government policy; taxation and construction; construction financial management and strategic planning; and the cost of company capital. You will also learn about the economics of development, the supply chain managemernt processes and how competition and perfomance can be appraised.

You will also learn about quantity surveying related professional practice and the wider aspects of the Quantity Surveyor's role.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
LO1: demonstrate knowledge of the influence of the economy on the construction sector, economic trends in the industry and the economics of development.
LO2: develop a knowledge of current industry-related initiatives that relate to professional practice and QS-related specialist roles;
LO3: demonstrate an understanding of commercial organisations and competitive markets; the forms and structures of various company types and how this affects their ability to raise finance;
LO4: demonstrate an understanding and application of budgeting processes; the financial management of the supply chain and taxation relief such as Capital Allowances;
LO5: demonstrate knowledge of financial accounting principles and construction insolvency
