Description of module content:

In this module, you will study traditional procurement routes and tender documentation for building projects. You will develop practical skills in preparing Bills of Quantities using the standard method of measurements. Additionally, you will also study measuring and estimating building works through relevant ICT software. Furthermore, we will explore current Quantity Surveying professional practices, emerging issues, and contemporary industry initiatives.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate an understanding of the traditional procurement route for construction works and the various types of industry-standard tendering documentation associated with both new-build and refurbishment works.

LO2: Develop the ability to apply industry-standard methods of measurement of building works in the preparation of Bills of Quantities for new building work.

LO3: Develop the ability to use ICT skills appropriate to the measurement and estimating of building projects

LO4: Demonstrate an awareness of current Quantity Surveying professional practice issues and initiatives.

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 21 The workshop will provide hands-on experience, enabling you to apply the industry-standard method of measurements. You will prepare detailed Bills of Quantities for various building elements. This may be supplemented by class discussions on various industry-standard tender documents and contemporary Quantity surveying professional practices.
Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 9 ICT Practical Sessions (Lab-based) are organised to develop practical ICT skills essential for measuring and estimating building projects. You will be guided to use industry-standard software tools to generate Bills of Quantities and produce detailed project estimates.
Online Guided independent study 170 Guided independent study may involve reading, working on workshop tasks or measurement exercises, accessing resources discussed in class and working on assessments.
