Description of module content:

This module introduces the technical specifications for the buildings as set in current Scottish Building Standards for domestic and non-domestic buildings. The regulations in other parts of UK are also discussed. Part 1 of the module covers Structure, Noise, Energy and Sustainability sections of the BS for Scotland. The module employs a mix of regulatory texts, graphical visualisation, technical drawings and site inspection evidence. Various types of constructions and the issues associated with these types are reviewed for compliance with relevant Sections. In addition, the acoustics of constructions is reviewed with focus on potential design errors, workmanship errors, testing compliance for sound insulation and air tightness and potential remedial works. Additionally the refurbishment of existing buildings is reviewed.
