This module articulates the advantages and appropriate use of different software packages in a collaborative BIM project as well as the challenges of using open shareable asset information.

The module employs a mix of published literature and practical activities in a variety of contexts including:
• BIM & Data File Management;
• professionalism and the multidisciplinary aspects of the construction industry;
• modelling a commercial building in a BIM environment;
• producing architectural and technical drawings of a commercial buildings;
• presentation of a critical literature review
• presentation of a professional set of drawings of a commercial building.

LO1: understand the multidisciplinary aspects of the construction of buildings and their on-going maintenance;
LO2: explain the principles and practical applications of Building Information Modelling (BIM);
LO3: demonstrate the ability to model a commercial building in a BIM environment;
LO4: apply research and problem solving techniques to resolve design problems;
LO5: demonstrate engagement with recent BIM publications and an ability to research, critically review the literature and clearly communicate the argument in a structured presentation.
