Description of module content:

Presentation skills, reflective learning, practical team management, motivation and delegation, self and peer assessment and evaluation, time management, making professional decisions on the basis of incomplete information.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: analyse, evaluate and justify suitable design and construction methods for a development project;
LO2: plan and manage the efforts of the project team and the development planning process;
LO3: present a technical, commercial and financial appraisal of the project in appropriate oral, written and graphic format;
LO4: evaluate and actively reflect on individual efforts and the learning experience during the project.

Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
Students shall be given a consultancy brief by the module leader in Week 1 and are expected to work in teams identify the challenges this poses and solutions the problems call for, (L.O.1 and 2). Students have the support of the Academic Support Advisor (over Weeks 2-15) for tutoring on presentation communication and writing skills (L.O.3). Each team member is allocated a task by the team and all are expected to be active within the team project activities and bring their specific discipline skills to the collaborative project. Each student is asked to keep a learning journal to record their own views of events during the project and their reflective comments and thoughts at the end of the project, (L.O.4). The learning log consists of an A4 bound lined notebook into which the students record their contribution to the project and their written reflections during and at the end of the project.

Formative Assessment:
10 minute presentation by student teams in week 1 with verbal feedback to the individual teams recorded via voice recorder. Voice file then sent to team leaders as a record. Assessment grid provided to students.

Summative Assessment:
1. 30 minute presentation to a panel of 2 academics and 2 professionals from industry. Assessment grid provided to students.
2. Students shall also keep an individual learning journal during the project assessment grid provided to students.
3. Students participate in self and peer assessment.
