Description of module content:

Connection systems and load transfer mechanisms in timber structures
Two and multi-member shear joints
Splice and moment resisting joints
Design of connection systems such as nails, screws, staples, bolts and dowels based on Johansen’s equations
Glued timber connections : shear, splice and moment resisting joints
Connection behaviour using experimental techniques
System behaviour and load transfer mechanisms in heavily loaded timber structures
Composite construction and use of engineered wood products
Finite element theory and practical applications of Lucas

On completion of this module you will be able to:
LO1: describe behaviour and load transfer mechanisms in heavily loaded timber structures
LO2: analyse and design composite structural systems such as I and boxed beams and spaced-columns
LO3: analyse and design structural systems incorporating engineered wood products
