Description of module content:

The module is designed to equip students with critical knowledge and awareness of the key issues affecting the sustainability of towns and cities, informed by the UN Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities. Students are introduced to urban development processes, appraisal techniques, and models of environmental sustainability, all of which are essential for understanding the social, economic, and environmental issues affecting cities and communities.
Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically evaluate theories and models of sustainable urban development

LO2: Analyse and critique urban development models in relation to sustainability outcomes

LO3: Critically analyse the impacts of climate change on urban property systems and propose resilience and adaptation strategies

LO4: Critically evaluate financial and economic dimensions of sustainable development, including development appraisals

LO5: Synthesise environmental, social, economic, and technological considerations in evaluating urban property development projects

LO6: Critically analyse how urban property protocols combine with environmental assessment methods to evaluate the sustainability of urban development

Face To Face Lecture 20 Learning and teaching consist of 2-hour lectures, where key topics are covered on sustainable urban property development. The module is taught thematically with each lecture providing an opportunity for the student to learn about key sustainability issues underlying the development of urban property. Lectures are supported with case study material drawn from a wide spectrum of the urban environment.
Face To Face Tutorial 10 The tutorials are used to reflect on these applications of sustainable urban property development techniques. Students also benefit from reading the key reference material supporting each topic in advance of the class. These are referenced on the lecture slides and/or the virtual learning environment.
Online Guided independent study 170 This is a learning approach where students take responsibility for their own learning process, with support and direction from the academics through tutorials and assessments. This will involve reading, working on tutorial tasks and exercises, studying and accessing resources discussed in lectures and tutorials, and working on assessments.
