Description of module content:

Supervised practice caring for children and young people in hospital and non-healthcare settings settings. These settings will include a placement within a paediatric special needs setting, a placement in a paediatric OPD and Planned Investigations Unit, and a placement with a Play Specialist in a paediatric hospital setting. Incorporated within these placements will be the development of values-based care. In addition to supervised practice, you will return to university for reflection and will continue to develop your Personal Development Portfolio online and complete a Practice Placement portfolio

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Gain an appreciation of the relationship between child development, health and ability to maintain
activities of living.
LO2: Develop an awareness of the skills for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating child and
family health care under supervision, through completion of clinical proficiencies and Practice Placement portfolio.
LO3: Recognise strategies which promote child, family and staff communication and well being through the
use of reflection.
LO4: Provide fundamental care of children and families, recognising the promotion of health and safety of
children, their families, staff and others under supervision.
LO5: Recognise the importance of literacy, numeracy and computer skills needed to record, enter, store,
retrieve and organise data essential for care delivery.
LO6: Utilise personal development portfolio to facilitate professional and practice development.
