The focus of the experience will be on caring for healthy infants, children, young people and their families. There will be the opportunity to develop clinical and interpersonal skills in a variety of community settings. The practice will be observational at first, with a gradual progression to increasing participation. The following content will be covered:Understanding and basic interpretation of demographic dataNational and local statistics related to population and environmental factorsInternational and national policies relevant to children and familiesLocal services within the community, aimed at supporting the health and wellbeing of children and familiesRoles and responsibilities of practitioners from a range of professional backgroundsHealth promotion, screening and surveillanceEnvironmental factors e.g. povertyParenting and family functioning, utilising representation from carer user groupsIn addition to supervised practice, the student will return to university for reflection and will continue to develop their Personal Development Portfolio.
