Description of module content:

This module will provide the opportunity to build on knowledge and skills acquired in the first year of the programme and apply current evidence based practice in all aspects of care in the hospital. You will be under supervision of a mentor, and you will take a more active part in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care children and families receive while in hospital. The NES HAI Cleanliness Champions Package units 5-9 are threaded through this experience and are documented within your Record of Achievement, and you are required to complete the required learning outcomes within these units. Your Record of Achievement will also document your progress towards completion and achievement of clinical skills and NMC proficiencies. Incorporated within these placements will be development of values-based care. Students will return to University for reflection and continue to develop their personal development portfolio.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Apply knowledge of a values based model of nursing care to accurately assess, plan, implement and evaluate the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual care of the child, young person and their family, based within a hospital setting
LO2: Demonstrate ongoing development of effective communication skills incorporating respect for individual beliefs and cultural practice in child rearing in a hospital setting
LO3: Demonstrate literacy, numeracy and computer skills needed to record, enter, store, retrieve and
organise data essential for care delivery in a hospital setting
LO4: Demonstrate professional and practical development through the achievement of clinical skills and proficiencies, completion of Personal Development Portfolio and participation in group reflection
