Description of module content:

You will explore the complexities of multi-morbidities and the impact this can have on children and young people and those who support them (LO1 – LO5). You will explore and understand the role of the child health nurse in the provision of holistic child and family centred care with consideration made to changing health profiles across developmental stages including palliative and end of life care (L01). You will develop an understanding of a range of approaches to health care provision including health promotion, health interventions and treatment across a range of services and settings(LO3 and LO5).

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Explore the impact that an alteration in physical, mental, behavioural and cognitive health and well-being can have on children and young people across their lifespan.

LO2: Utilise the research and evidence-base to explore complex health and wellbeing needs.

LO3: Examine the local, national and international guidelines that inform healthcare provision for children and young people with complex health and wellbeing needs.

LO4: Develop knowledge and understanding of compassionate communication techniques that establish effective communication with children and young people who have complex health and wellbeing needs.

LO5: Consider the benefits of working co productively with children and young people with an alteration in health status and their families/carers across developmental stages within health and social care settings.

Face To Face Tutorial 18 Tutorials commence in week 12 of trimester 2 and conclude in week 4 of trimester 3. Tutorials will provide further contextualisation of VLE materials. Scenario-based approaches will enable application of nursing practice within a learning environment to deepen and enrich student understanding of child health nursing practice
