Description of module content:

This module will introduce the theory of caring for children and young people with cancer within the following:
Demographics & epidemiology
Common malignancies in children & young people
Available treatments & management
Central venous catheters (CVC's) care
Holistic care & multi-disciplinary approach
Pain management (drug & non-drug)
Care of young people with cancer
Ethical dilemmas/Care of the dying child and the family
Family Nursing context
Survival & recent advances

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO:1 Provide a rationale for the care of children and young people with cancer.
LO:2 Apply knowledge of the pathophysiology of different types of cancer.
LO:3 Critically reflect on the care of the child and young person with cancer.
LO:4 Evaluate the psychosocial impact of the child and young person with cancer and the support mechanisms for the whole family.
LO:5 Critically examine approaches of the multidisciplinary care in the light of current evidence.
