Description of module content:

The contents of the module will provide the students with a critical understanding of the perspectives of
vulnerability in childhood.
Explore vulnerability and resilience within families.
Relate vulnerability and resilience to:
Child protection
Health of young people
Mental health
Children with disability
Emergency care of children.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Critically reflect on the factors, which contribute to increased vulnerability in children and young people.
LO2: Discuss ways in which specific areas of vulnerability can be identified and addressed by non-
specialists.
LO3: Demonstrate understanding of key policies, and apply the principles to professional practice.
LO4: Illustrate, with reference to a vulnerable child, the importance of working in partnership with
children/young people, carers and professionals.
LO5: Utilise a problem solving approach to manage a child/young person in an emergency situation
