A Blended approach will be utilised within this module which means that there will be a combination of face to face and online learning opportunities. This will include interactive online activities tutorials and recorded lectures. Materials and activities will be provided via a virtual learning environment to supplement and complement your learning within lectures and tutorials (LO1-5). Lectures and Tutorials will be recorded, enabling you to access these via your virtual learning environment to better support your development. Principles of an inclusive learning environment will be utilised within all teaching to support all learners to achieve. Scenario-based, real world approaches will enable application of nursing practice within the learning environment to enrich and deepen student understanding of supporting children and young people with complex health and social care needs and their familes/carers (LO1-5).

Students will be asked to develop a proforma which will provide detail of the following – An indication of their preferred assessment methodAn overview of their planned focus for the summative assessment Indicative reference list.This will be subject to verbal feedback from peers and the tutor.

The student will have an option of two assessment methods:a) A 10-minute narrated digital presentation of a critical incident in the style of a clinical handover. The students will need to choose a clinical scenario, explain the complex health presentations, and the strategies to address the challenges of care, providing a rationale for the non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions of care. Students will need to explore the evidence-base related to the clinical problem and provide recommendations for addressing the care needs throughout the lifespan. Students will need to evaluate their decision-making and critical thinking (LO1-5). ORb) 1500-word critical incident report of a chosen complex clinical scenario.
