Description of module content:

This module will give you a broad understanding of structures in education, together with training provision. This knowledge will enable you to undertake educational guidance work. You will develop an understanding of how to evaluate provision, and how students and service users can navigate their way through the education system. You will learn how to interpret educational and vocational qualifications. You will be supported to network with learning institutions. Units of study will include: overview of the education industry - qualification systems - academic and vocational education - schools - higher education and international students - further education and adult/community education - vocational training. The module will run in weeks 2 -7 in trimester 1.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Develop an understanding of education, including its purpose, sectors (school, further/higher, adult/community education), qualification systems, and supporting agencies. Critically analyse and evaluate these structures.

LO2: Critically analyse and evaluate structures for vocational education and training.

LO3: Gain effective networking and relationship building skills for work with learning opportunity providers.

Face To Face Tutorial 6 You will participate in face-to-face in-class discussion with fellow students and your tutor. This will enable a deeper understanding of issues in education and training, and their implications for career choices.
Online External visits 10 You will engage with education providers either via online or on site visits. This will enhance your liaison skills and build your knowlege of opportunities.
Online Guided independent study 78 Throughout the trimester, you are expected to structure in time to reflect upon the learning you have undertaken in your scheduled sessions and to complete your essential reading. You are encouraged to read more widely around the topics you are studying and engage in Moodle activities and resources. You will need to ensure that you have sufficient time to prepare and plan for your assessment tasks.
