Description of module content:

In this module you will examine the move towards the professionalisation in the career industry. The development of your own professionalism and ethical awareness will be key to this module. You will develop this through learning about models of reflective practice and applying them to your own work. You will take part in discussion, debate and interaction between fellow students and to develop skills to begin to operate as an autonomous reflective practitioner, integrating information from diverse sources to refine your professional practice and incorporate the values and ethics of the profession into your practice. You will examine the impact of engaging in continuous professional development to your practice and consider how evidence-based practice can inform your professional reflection. Units of study will include: professionalism, professionalisation, and professional identity - ethics - reflective practice - quality assurance and performance management - evidence-based practice - guidance organisation structure and culture - supervision, peer support and communities of practice. The module will take place across weeks 8-14 in trimester 2.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically analyse codes of professional ethics, and consider their implications for the development of your own values and practice.

LO2: Critically evaluate the concept of evidence-based practice, and the use of evidence to inform the design of career services.

LO3: Critically reflect on your own development as a practitioner, drawing on concepts of reflective practice and evidence-based practice, and engaging in constructive professional dialogue.

Face To Face Tutorial 6 On campus students will participate in face-to-face class discussions of professional issues, including use of case studies.Through dialogue with fellow students you will develop your own opinions and further your understanding of professionalism.
Face To Face Guided independent study 88 Throughout the trimester, you are expected to structure in time to reflect upon the learning you have undertaken in your scheduled sessions and to complete your essential reading. You are encouraged to read more widely around the topics you are studying and engage in Moodle activities and resources.
