Description of module content:

In this module you will develop an understanding and apply UX design methodologies in a manner that expresses project outputs in an efficient and insightful way. This module will be delivered primarily face to face, over ten two-hour lectures and learning applied through ten two-hour practical sessions. Activities and resources will be available to access on the VLE, with supplemental materials available through online resources, e.g. reading material and audio/visual media. You will recognize and demonstrate UX design methodology understanding by applying independent thinking in order to illustrate appropriate approach to identifying unmet needs of users (LO1). You will be able to organise identified unmet needs by analyzing and disseminate your approach in a practical, visual and resourceful way (LO2). Finally, you will synthesize findings in order to produce conceptual project outputs with stated benefits to the user (LO3).

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 20 Weekly Practical classes and workshops lasting 2 hours. Practical classes will be split between classroom and computer labs as required. Students will focus on applying methods covered during lecture sessions in practice. Students will get the opportunity to learn how to complete a range of different UX design methods and encouraged to be creative in visual dissemination. Each week will provide students opportunities for formative feedback on ideas.
Face To Face Lecture 20 Weekly lectures lasting 2 hours which will cover the key theories and principles of User Experience Design. Students will be introduced to different UX methodologies and gain knowledge in key practices within UXD. Students will be encouraged to contribute to discussions within lecture sessions to help develop understanding of application of UX theories in the real world.
Online Guided independent study 160 Guided independent study - including WK7 reading week & WK13 revision week. Students will have weekly essential and recommended readings expanding lecture content to aid independent study. A variety of additional online resources will also be available to match the diversity of learning styles including reading materials, short online videos, online resources and discussions.

Project - Written 40 1 Week 8 , WORDS= 1500 words This assessment will require students to select a project topic which they focus a written critical reflection on. Students will be provided with project topic options in Week 2, but have the possibility to discuss their own topic if desired. The written project will require students to research their chosen topic and provide a reflective critique which demonstrates their understanding of key UX design methodologies.
Project - Practical 60 2~3 Exam Period HOURS= 50 hours This assessment is a practical project where students will select a client brief that they need to respond to. The client briefs will be available for students to select from Week 2. Students will be expected to complete a UX design project based on the client specifications and produce a 7 minute client pitch presentation and a 1000 word design report to supplement the presentation content.
