Description of module content:

The module presents a balanced approach to the subject area by addressing both the theory and practice of Business Intelligence and reporting in enterprise systems. The aim of this module is to develop a deep understanding of enterprise information systems and their role in business processes alongside practical skills in business intelligence reporting and dashboard design. It includes:

• Evaluation of the impact that Enterprise Information Systems can have within organisation business processes
• An assessment of the impact that they have on the efficiency and effectiveness of organisations and supply chains
• Fundamentals of business intelligence, such as data warehousing and data mining
• The role of performance dashboards in performance management and measurement in organisations
• The sourcing and extraction of data and the analysis and development of intelligence

The module will use a range of tools to give students an appreciation of the nature of large scale integrated information systems and to practice data analytical techniques.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to
LO1: Critically assess and explain the major objectives, success factors and significant elements of Enterprise Information Systems.
LO2: Explain and assess approaches to business process management analysis and design.
LO3: Critically compare, analyse and evaluate business intelligence and reporting technologies.
LO4: Construct a performance dashboard and business intelligence report from a give data set using industry standard tools and techniques.
LO5: Evaluate and critique current legislation on data privacy and relevant ethical issues
