Description of module content:

In this module you will practically explore and gain competency in a range of foundational skills for graphic design. You will explore, gather, and learn from examples of existing graphic design and visual culture in order to gain an elementary appreciation for the basic operations of visual communication. Module activities and coursework assignments are focussed on development of a variety of practical skills ranging from paper-craft to software techniques. Knowledge and skills gained in this module in working with common materials and formats will form a solid foundation on which to build throughout your studies.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Collect, organise, identify, and describe relevant features in examples of existing graphic design and visual culture

LO2: Demonstrate application of a range of basic skills and techniques for collecting, preparing, and manipulating visual material in the course of routine graphic design activity

LO3: Demonstrate understanding of the basic operations of visual communication by combining visual materials to craft and transmit meaning

LO4: Demonstrate an understanding of, and work with, common materials and formats for graphic design production

This will include your process book (for example: A3 process book, minimum 48 pages), and outputs specified for digital and physical production (for example: three project outcomes to specifications detailed in project briefs. Digital files formatted correctly, printed materials produced to correct dimensions and material specifications).
