Description of module content:

Live performance is a holistic sensory experience. We don’t talk about going to “hear” a band or theatre play, we talk about going to “see” it. The visual dimension of live performance has always been a core component of the experience. In this ‘Live Graphics’ module, you will be introduced to the world of graphic design for performance and entertainment. You will work on two design challenges, focused on different areas of the entertainment industry, and each allowing you to explore and develop skills in areas of your own interest within the realm of motion design: ranging from digital or analogue animation, to projection mapping, to responsive generative visuals.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Demonstrate and work with an understanding of key principles, theories, concepts and terminology relating to the use of motion design within live performance and entertainment contexts

LO2: Apply knowledge, skills and understanding in using a range of the principal professional skills, techniques, and practices of motion design in live performance and entertainment contexts

LO3: Critically analyse design project briefs to identify and exploit key opportunities for conceptual storytelling, visual communication and use of technical skills

LO4: Communicate and present compelling design proposals through persuasive and informative visualisations using industry standard skills and techniques

LO5: Exercise and demonstrate autonomy, initiative, and qualities of professionalism in working collaboratively with others to deliver appropriate motion design outputs
