Description of module content:

In Design Portfolio 1 you will reflect on your own position in relation to the current state of knowledge, skills, practices and thinking within contemporary design practice. In this context, you will then identify your own professional goals and objectives, and set out a strategy for achieving these goals through personal growth, development, and the creation and development of your design portfolio throughout your final year of study and beyond. Under guidance of module tutors, you will undertake one or more professional level design briefs (national or international design competition briefs or live briefs set by external partners) which will contribute towards the design portfolio which you will use to promote yourself to the world upon graduation. This module is followed by Design Portfolio 2, in which you will continue further developing and enhancing your portfolio throughout in your final trimester of study.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically identify, define, conceptualise and analyse complex problems within design briefs.

Face To Face Lecture 12 Weekly talks from tutors and/or external guests will direct your thinking towards relevant aspects of contemporary design practice upon which to reflect while working towards your portfolio and professional goals.
Online Practical classes and workshops 48 Each week you will work on developing your portfolio projects under guidance of tutors, and amongst the supportive community of your peers within your dedicated studio space.
Online Guided independent study 140 In order to develop your portfolio, you will continue working independently outside of scheduled class time, making use of resources and direction provided in class.

Portfolio 100 1~2~3~4~5 Week 15 , WORDS= See description You will submit your design portfolio, containing your most up to date representation of your own design skills, attributes, and achievements. Typically, you might undertake two six week studio design projects (or one 12 week project by agreement with your tutor) forming a portfolio for assessment at the end of the module. The portfolio will present your account of the tasks you have undertaken throughout the module as you have gained and developed an understanding of design practice, along with all required deliverable outputs specified in the coursework briefs. Submissions will be assessed based on assessment criteria provided within the coursework assignment briefs at the beginning of each project. These assessment criteria are mapped onto the learning outcomes for the module allowing you to clearly demonstrate evidence of achievement of the learning outcomes for the module. As part of this portfolio submission you will also submit a personal statement of your own professional goals and objectives, and an account of your strategy for achieving these goals through growth, development and the use of your portfolio. Portfolio submission represents 100% of the module grade. Summative assessment is in Week 15
