Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach:
This is a practice-based exploratory module where you will undertake photographic briefs, supported through seminars, practical classes and workshops.

Face-to-face teaching will take place in brief-specific demonstrations and workshops with integral seminars relating to contemporary practices. (LO1). Seminars allow for discussion of your learning in independent study, engagement in critical debate and to benefit from tutor expertise. Guided site visits to galleries and/or agencies will reinforce research and critical reflection towards creative outcomes. (LO4).

You will produce responses to three professionally targeted briefs and present them in a critique to your peer group (LOs 2,3,) You will develop a workbook exhibiting your research, experimentation and contextualisation across the module (LO5) and submit with a portfolio of the projects and a critically reflective statement in week 14.


Formative Assessment:
There are three formative assessments (LOs 2,3,5) taking place in weeks 5, 9 and 13. They involve the presentation, in critique format, of photographs in response to briefs.


Summative Assessment:
There will be one summative assessment (LOs 1,2,3,4,5) for this module, worth 100% of the module grade, due in week 14. This will comprise a portfolio of images, your workbook and a 600 word critically reflective statement.

Description of module content:

Through a series of workshops and site visits you will explore modes of visual storytelling and creative narrative. You will engage in the analysis and critique of contemporary visual narratives to develop your own image production methodology. You will produce a set of images as a base for critical reflection upon personal practice.

You will undergo an introduction to the technical resources with the professionally targeted project briefs enabling a diagnostic period relating to practical skills. You will develop individual perspectives in expanding future and personal expertise.
