Description of module content:

This module will advance your understanding of service design by introducing advanced methods and tools necessary for the creation of complex services. You will apply research into stakeholder needs and requirements to prototype and test service design concepts.

Learning Outcomes for module:

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically review, identify and select relevant theories and methods of contextual research appropriate for different stages within a complex design process.

LO2: Demonstrate an awareness of current issues in service design and be able to apply advanced methods and tools in response to these issues.

LO3: Apply knowledge and understanding to demonstrate originality and an understanding of the principles of iterative, evidence-based and reflective processes in creative and responsible problem solving in the practice of service design.

LO4: Communicate, using appropriate methods, to a range of audiences with different levels of understanding prototypes and proposals for complex goods and services.

Face To Face Lecture 20 A series of lectures that cover advanced methods and tools for service design in complex systems. Topics will include in depth understanding of agile methods, as well as systems theory and an appreciation of stakeholder experience across delivery perspectives.
Face To Face Supervised time in studio/workshop 20 In this series of workshops you will investigate and develop advanced practice in the development of service prototypes. In this series of workshops, you will practice and learn various methods for developing and presenting these prototypes. You will develop your summative assessment over the course of the workshops, receiving formative feedback over time.
Online Guided independent study 160 Independent study around literature presented in class and preparation for and response to weekly workshops.

Drawing from a range of literature and case studies you will present service prototypes developed in the workshops conducted over the course of the module.Through the workshops you will develop a prototype to compliment your written work. Formative feedback will be given in the workshops.
