Description of module content:

In this module you will be introduced to the digital building blocks of contemporary technologies; from algorithms, through data structures and logic which make up code, to the decisions behind interfaces and web page design. You will get hands-on experience developing your knowledge of the fundamentals of programming, you will learn how to code simple applications. Furthermore, you will be introduced to the basics of web page design and interactivity, gaining experience of HTML, CSS and specialised software to develop online content. Applying these skills to your own context, you will have the opportunity to utilise them in a virtual learning environment, a blog or a website. These skills will be framed within the larger context of the use of technology for learning and teaching, and you will be introduced to some of the wider debates concerning the sociotechnical and sociomaterial aspects of human-computer interaction.

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Investigate and critically assess technologies used for learning and teaching with reference to pedagogy and software design.
LO2: Demonstrate research-informed pedagogy by designing and leading a workshop in the use of technologies, coding/scripting or specialised software.
LO3: Design and develop a digital learning artefact using web-based technologies, coding/scripting or specialised software and critically evaluate it.
