Student Activity (Notional Equivalent Study Hours (NESH)) |
Mode of activity | Learning & Teaching Activity | NESH (Study Hours) | NESH Description |
Independent Learning | Practical classes and workshops | 7.5 | From weeks 2 to 6, you will engage with a weekly 90 minute online computer lab. During each lab, you will be working through a problem-based learning activity to gradually build your skills and confidence in coding and software. You will be working at your own pace, but the tutor will bring the group together at set points to share learning and give feedback on progress. |
Independent Learning | Guided independent study | 7.5 | From weeks 2 to 5, a weekly topic will be made available on Moodle, comprising videos, readings and external content. You can work through these materials at your own pace and in your own time each week, and provide a foundation for the problem-based tasks in the corresponding weekly computer labs. |
Independent Learning | Guided independent study | 3 | A self-study unit on Critiquing Learning Technology is made available to you to engage with at your own pace in preparation for writing the report on your digital artefact. These materials will introduce you to the wider debates relevant to the field and critical approaches to understanding education and technology. |
Independent Learning | Practical classes and workshops | 6 | During the second half of the module, all students will lead a short workshop for peers to train them on the use of a technology for learning and teaching of their choice. This will allow for the cohort to learn from each others' independent activities and for each student to gain experience of leading a workshop. |
Independent Learning | Guided independent study | 176 | During this time, you will be working independently on developing your learning artefact, and writing and researching for the accompanying report. |

Class Test | 20 | 4 | Week 6 | HOURS= 90 min x 5 | The computer labs run from weekly from Week 2 to Week 6. During each 90 minute lab, students will be asked to complete a task on a worksheet (LO1). They will submit this work to a assessment dropbox on Moodle. The worksheets are made available on Moodle from the start of each week and students may complete and submit their work at any point during the week. Support on completing the task will be provided during the computer lab session. |
Project - Practical | 80 | 1~2~3 | Week 13 | HOURS= Equiv to 4,000 | You are tasked with designing, developing and evaluating a digital artefact for learning and teaching use in your context, built using web-based technologies, coding/scripting or specialised software of your choice (LO3). As part of this process, you will lead a workshop for peers training them in technology/ies you used to develop your artefact or the artefact itself (LO2). You will produce a report in which you critically evaluate (a) the technologies you used to make your artefact and (b) the usability for students and pedagogical purpose of your design, with reference to the literature. You will also include a short reflection on your experience of leading workshop for your peers. |
