It supports your ongoing practice and development as a pedagogical scholar and education communicator. The module explores what it means to engage with and contribute to pedagogical scholarship and introduces you to the breadth of methodologies available to you as a practice-based educational researcher. You will also explore and critically engage with a range of key topics, including (but not limited to), a) the broader, global contexts in which higher education operates including internationalisation of HE, b) equality, diversity and inclusion, c) widening participation, d) ethical teaching, e) student wellbeing and belonging, f) scholarship of teaching and learning, and g) the key debates, initiatives and policies influencing learning and teaching. Additionally, you will be introduced to other topics as introduced by your peers through their scholarship work. This module runs across just over 1.5 trimester, starting in Tr3 and completing in week 10 of Tr1. This allows for extra time to implement learning from your PgCert in your practice and reflect on the outcomes for your final summative dialogue.

Student Activity (Notional Equivalent Study Hours (NESH))
Mode of activityLearning & Teaching ActivityNESH (Study Hours)NESH Description
Independent Learning Practical classes and workshops 10 In the first 4 weeks at the start of the module (start of Tr3) we will have the now customary Wednesday afternoon online PgCert sessions, with exercises and discussions designed to get you started with your practitioner enquiry project plans. There will be further sessions that are more Q&A-based around assessment support that occur in the lead up to submission dates.
Online Guided independent study 180 This module requires more independent work as you delve into an enquiry project to plan investigating your own practice. After the Wednesday afternoon sessions at the start of Tr3 you can largely plan your own time during the remainder of Tr3, until we return to touch base before the summative submission in Week 13 of Tr3. There's more independent learning in Tr1, allowing for reflection on all your learning on the programme. Please note: 22 weeks in total.
Online GROUPIND_STUDY 10 We will scaffold peer group activities designed to support each other in developing your practitioner enquiry project plans. This will largely occur at the start of Tr3 (week 1-4), near the end of Tr3 (weeks 11-12), and in the formative Symposium in week 4 of Tr1.
