Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Approach: |
This module’s learning and teaching approach is underpinned by the principles of experiential learning and co-creation of learning with students. You will be supported through workshops, digital materials, collaborative activities, and asynchronous discussion forums. During workshops, the module team will guide you through activities to develop and apply critical thinking and practices on teaching and supporting learning, and to support your alignment of practice with the dimensions of UKPSF Descriptor 2 [LO5]. You will also have the opportunity to benefit from the programme’s online scholarship space – a dedicated quiet time for study or writing, with other participants and tutors present for support.Through a hands-on approach to quality assurance and enhancement, you will be tasked with applying these processes to your own teaching and that of your peers [LO2]. Through the formative and summative tasks, you will be embedding assessment for learning into the design of learning, and critically engaging with how feedback on students’ learning can be applied to your own practice [LO4].Three units of the module will be designed and delivered by groups of module participants to their peers. You will be given your group and a topic, and the module team will supervise and advise on the completion of this task. Participating as a student on your peers' units will give you the opportunity to experience first-hand the result of your peers’ learning designs, which you will then reflect upon in your portfolio on how they may apply in your own practice [LO1]. The module team will support you in your continuing engagement with education scholarship and evidence-based approaches to teaching during webinars, online materials and recommended reading. You will be asked to evidence your critical application of your reading on appropriate learning environments in your portfolio [LO3].

There are two formative assessments in this module, a peer exchange of a module descriptor and a group task of student-led teaching and peer evaluation of the unit. For the first formative assessment you will review and give feedback on a module descriptor provided by a peer in light of learning design principles and quality assurance and enhancement processes (week 2 or 4). In exchange, you will receive peer critique from another module participant on a module descriptor relevant to your own teaching and/or context. The experience of giving and receiving feedback will help you develop your module enhancement report which is part of your summative assessment (see below). For the second formative assessment, as part of a group you will teach a unit (including assessment) to your peers (between weeks 6 and 11). The feedback you receive from peers and tutors, and your reflections on team teaching as well as on your experience of being a student in your peer's units, will feed into your summative portfolio (see below).
|
There are two components which contribute to the summative assessment: 1. module enhancement report 2. a portfolio evidencing your developing practice.Drawing on the feedback you received from the peer critique on your module descriptor and your learning during the student-led units, you will be tasked with creating a module enhancement report (week 12). Addressing these critiques, your enhancement report will outline suggestions for enhancement of the module with specific attention to quality assurance and enhancement, and assessment for learning [MLO2,4].The second assessment is a portfolio (week 14) evidencing your developing practice and engagement with learning design and learning environments which critically reflects on your participation as a teacher and learner in the student-led units [MLO1,3, 5]. Further guidance will be provided in the assessment brief.
