Description of module content:

This module is aimed at both academic and professional services staff and provides an introduction to learning, teaching and supporting learning in Higher Education (HE). Focusing on core aspects of learning, teaching and support for learning – in alignment with the Advance HE's Professional Standards Framework (PSF 2023) – the module will a) introduce you to key principles, theories and seminal literature relating to learning and teaching in HE; b) introduce you to working collaboratively within a cross-institutional community of peers; c) facilitate critical reflection, evaluation and development of your own practice; d) develop your understanding of and engagement with principles of inclusion and their implications for your practice, and e) engage you in critically evaluating a variety of modalities of and environments for learning, considering the implications for your own practice. To avoid clashing with peak workload at the start of trimester 1, this module is set to run over 2 trimesters to allow staggering: the teaching and assessment of this module will take place from week 4 in Trimester 1 until Week 2 in Trimester 2.

Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 12 This module begins with four half-day in-person workshops (Weeks 4-5 of Tri1, the first trimester of this module) where you will begin to engage in critical reflection upon your own practice through topics of social, critical, intercultural approaches as well as inclusion and evaluation. These sessions will begin work towards your assessments, which is further supported through regular online sessions.
Independent Learning GROUPIND_STUDY 16 Starting during the intensive workshops in weeks 4-5 of Trimester 1 (the first trimester of this module), in your peer group you will work on preparing your first formative assessment, the critique of an educational concept. You will be supported in making arrangements within your group regarding when you commit to undertaking this work. We encourage and support you to keep working in these peer groups as you work towards your remaining assessments.
Online Guided independent study 164 We will support your independent study through asynchronous tasks and engagement via Moodle and Teams, offering reading and discussion prompts. Part of this independent study comprises workbased learning as you implement your learning and use your current practice in teaching and supporting learning to inform your learning on this module and your assessments.
Independent Learning Practical classes and workshops 8 Following the initial four half-day in-person workshops, supportive online sessions (2h) every three weeks will help keep you on track as you develop your learning and assessments.

Oral Assessment 50 1~2~3~4~5 Week 1 HOURS= 30 mins This will take place in Weeks 2 and 3 of Tri 2, the second trimester of this module, at a precise date and time arranged with you. You will engage in a 30-minute Professional Dialogue with two reviewers who meet Advance HE requirements. Your Report of Developing Practice will form the basis for this dialogue where you are expected to evidence how you have implemented your learning in your practice and how you know your practice is inclusive and effective according to Descriptor 1 of PSF 2023.
