Description of module content:

This module will consist of 6 main topics:
1. Complex numbers in Cartesian, Polar and Exponential forms
2. Foundation Mathematics including algebra, functions and their graphs
3. Concept of differentiation involving product, quotient and chain rules
4. Indefinite and definite integrals with engineering applications
5. Solving engineering problems involving scalar and vector products
6. Descriptive Statistics using a graphical calculator or software

Learning Outcomes for module:

On completion of this module you will be taught to:
LO1: manipulate complex numbers;
LO2: simplify algebraic expressions and rearrange formulae which involve indices and logarithms;
LO3: use trigonometry ratios and identities and apply wave functions;
LO4: perform basic differentiation and integration including engineering applications;
LO5: express vectors in three dimensions. Solve engineering problems using scalar and vector products;
LO6: interpret and communicate information from a set of data.
