Description of module content:

In the context of the IET Wiring Regulations, 17th edition, BS 7671:2008 (Amendment 3:2015), this module will include; Supply system components and ratings. Load identification, cables, wiring and installation methods. Overload protection, protection devices - fusing, MCBs, MCCBs, RCDs, Selectivity (discrimination) and fault levels, earthing (TN systems), protection against electric shock and protection against overcurrent. Complete circuit design calculations with emphasis on industrial and commercial applications. In addition, an awareness of the following will be included; Standby Generators, Specialist/Special Installations, Power factor, Energy Sustainability, Auxiliary Circuits , Emergency Lighting, Fire Safety and LED Lighting.

Learning Outcomes for module:

On completion of this module you will be able to:
LO1: Estimate load demand for an installation
LO2: Select appropriate cable sizes in accordance with the current IET Wiring Regulations;
LO3: Perform and compare manual and software based electrical designs for industrial/commercial installations.
