Description of module content:

The engineering industrial placement offers a valuable opportunity for you and host organisations to engage in a mutually beneficial partnership over a minimum period of 30 weeks, where satisfactory employment with a programme-related organisation.The placement can be accumulative but minimum 10 weeks in one placement.The support for students interested in a placement will be conducted during year 3 of the course, this will include lectures and workshops from the various entities across the university in preparation and application process for placements - to include employer input where possible.For you, the placement provides a dynamic environment to apply academic knowledge in real-world settings. It allows them to:Gain hands-on experience with engineering tools, technologies, and processes.Develop professional skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.Build confidence and adaptability in a workplace setting.Explore potential career paths and clarify future goals.For the host organisation, the placement brings fresh perspectives and enthusiastic talent into the team.Organisations benefit by:Gaining access to motivated individuals with up-to-date technical knowledge.Receiving support on ongoing projects or new initiatives.Contributing to the development of future engineers and strengthening industry-academic links.Identifying potential future employees through early engagement.This collaborative experience fosters innovation, supports workforce development, and helps bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice.This is effectively a year long placement opportunity and as a duty of care the university will have a minimum of two meetings with student through the year, this will be supported by the university and school - Formative assessments.The taught elements in the module will be conducted during the 3rd year of the programme to support students in identifying the appropriate area of engineering, relevant companies and placement opportunities and develop skills in applications - including CV's & interviews.While on placement the students will have access to staff and university resources to assist in the placement and support [online] session to support them and the final assessments for the module.
