Description of module content:

By studying this module, you will learn the terminology, core theories and tools required for applying project management practices. In project management, the experts use organisational resources and initiatives for completing a range of tasks such as developing innovative services to improve public provision, constructing new building and infrastructure projects or developing software and digital applications.This module underpins the fundamentals of the field by increasing the understanding about managing projects within constraints such as time, cost, and quality. The key concepts of project management (in general as well as in the context of digital transformation) will be supported through case study discussions, guest lectures, and other in-class activities (i.e., peer-generated discussion). You will acquire several managerial skills as well as competencies that are key to becoming an effective project manager. The module will enable you to develop your existing skills and acquire new skills in areas including risk management, monitoring & control of projects, procurement, operations management, and digital technologies. By the end of the module, you will critically analyse complex nature of digital transformation projects and will obtain the knowledge of contemporary project management techniques (i.e., agile project management) and tools to support decision-making and ensure timely delivery of project objectives.This module is thoughtfully designed to meet the diverse needs of learners, providing tailored support for individuals from various academic and professional backgrounds, including part-time students and working professionals. Dedicated resources ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all participants. By integrating learning technologies such as Mentimeter and Moodle, the module offers an interactive and flexible educational experience, enabling easy access to resources and active participation in both on-campus and online activities. Face To Face Practical classes and workshops 20 10 two-hour sessions will be spread over 12 weeks. During these interactive sessions, you will discuss several case studies that correspond to the topics elaborated during the weekly lectures and you will also start developing your project management strategy, which is one of the components of your assessments. You will utilise these sessions to incorporate the theoretical knowledge with practical applications that are brought from several industrial settings.
Online Guided independent study 170 You will engage in self-guided exploration of project management via focusing on digital transformation related subjects.
Face To Face Lecture 10 10 one-hour lectures will be spread over 12 weeks. During these lectures, you will be introduced to several different concepts, and theories of project management. In class discussions that are focusing on theories and concepts of project management will be supported and the learning will be further enhanced by different activities such as guest lectures, question & answer sessions, and flipped-classroom activities.

Project - Practical 70 1~2~3~4 Week 12 HOURS= 3,000 words You will apply the project management techniques learnt during the lectures and tutorials to develop a project management strategy for a hypothetical digital transformation project assigned to you (transforming the products, processes, or business models of an organisation). The strategy will be presented in a written format (3,000 words) and will include different artefacts used in project management (e.g. Gantt chart, mindmaps, etc.).
Essay 30 1~2~3 Exam Period , WORDS= 1,500 words In this essay, you will reflect on how the theory underpinning project management practice has supported you in developing your project management strategy (Component 1). The reflection will link real-life examples from your own experience with relevant references from the literature, to critically appraise how the theory can influence the practice of project management in digital transformation projects.
