SCQF credit value: 20.00
ECTS credit value: 10

Module code: ENV08101
Module leader: Ah Nya Plant
School School of Applied Sciences
Subject area group: Animal and Plant Science
Prerequisites

There are no pre-requisites for this module to be added

Description of module content:

This module considers the physiological systems of organisms: from microorganisms to humans and how they interact with the environment. The themes are: human physiological systems, micro-organism physiology, plant physiology and general animal physiology. Physiological mechanisms include: digestion and metabolism; respiration; circulation; water balance; temperature balance; toxic effects; nervous system, endocrinology, male and female reproduction, and foetal development.
The content is delivered via lectures and tutorials
27th july

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Describe the physiological system similarities and differences of taxonomic groups, demonstrating an understanding of how and why physiological systems differ with regard to environmental selective pressures
LO2: Define and critically evaluate the differing strategies of conformers and regulators (including homeostasis)
LO3: Explain how physiological systems respond to variation in environmental variables (within their lifetime)
LO4: Explain the importance of sensory systems in enabling animals (including humans) to respond to environmental variables
LO5: Demonstrate an understanding of reproductive systems and how they have evolved to effectively maximise lifetime reproductive success
LO6: Produce a written critical review relating to non-human or human physiological system(s).
