Description of module content:

Toxic effects on different organ systems
Effects of organophosphates and organochlorines on the environment, animals and humans. Effects of key metals on the environment, animals and humans.
Effects of climate change.
Genotoxicity

Learning Outcomes for module:

LO1: Examine the manner and routes by which toxins affect animal and human systems.
LO2: Compare and contrast key effects of organophosphate and organochlorine compounds in vertebrate and invertebrate species.
LO3: Examine the mechanisms by which the negative effects of heavy metals are reduced in the environment and body.
LO4: Critically evaluate the factors driving climate change and the effects on environment and physiology.
LO5: Integrate knowledge of physical habitat degradation and parasite and disease risk.
LO6: Critically examine the effects of oil pollutants on marine mammal communities.
