Description of module content:

During this module you will learn how organisations train, develop, and upskill their workforce in ways that support both individual growth and organisational goals. Throughout the module, you will be introduced to the principles of instructional design, gaining insight into how to create effective training programmes tailored to different learning styles and needs. You will also examine how leadership and management development practices contribute to broader organisational strategy, considering the role of HRD in achieving long-term ambitions. Alongside this, you will also engage with contemporary issues such as digital learning, knowledge management, and the changing nature of careers in a dynamic work environment. A key focus will be on how to nurture a positive and effective learning culture within organisations, equipping you with both the theoretical grounding and practical awareness needed in modern HRD practice.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Examine the concept of Human Resource Development as an emerging field of research and practice.

LO2: Critically appraise various theoretical models of Strategic Human Resource Development and apply them in appropriate ways.

LO3: Critically analyse the key activities of the Systematic Training Cycle.

LO4: Discuss the theories of e-learning and consider their implications for Human Resource Development practice.

LO5: Evaluate the impact of Human Resource Development on other organisational activities relating to Organisational Learning, Knowledge Management, Management Development and Career Development.

Independent Learning Lecture 15 You will engage in 5 x 3hour lectures introducing you to the module content. You will learn how to design, deliver and evaluate the success of a training/learning activity, and examine learning activities such as e-learning and management development. You will examine the concepts of the Learning Organisation and Knowledge Management and critically evaluate the role of HRD in relation to business development and success
Face To Face Tutorial 15 You will engage in small group tutorials, which will be delivered in person by local tutor. Tutorials provide an opportunity for in-depth engagement with concepts introduced in lectures. Through a variety of group activities and case studies, you can deepen your understanding, apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, and develop practical experience in key HRD concepts.
Online Guided independent study 170 You are expected to actively engage in independent study activities, such as reading, conducting literature searches, and preparing for assessments

You will examine the concepts of the Learning Organisation and Knowledge Management and critically evaluate the role of HRD in relation to business development and success
