Description of module content:

Theories relating to differing perspectives on the employment relationship provide a framework for a more detailed consideration of issues relating to employee "voice": representation, information & consultation and direct employee involvement. The processes adopted by management to secure control and commitment and the changing role of the HRM function in the process of managing people. The ethical considerations within the employment relationship. The way in which management strategies are influenced by government policy, law, and the bargaining power of the individual and of organised labour. The impact of increasing globalisation and multinational companies is part of the consideration of context.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Examine the concept of HRD as an emerging field of research and practice.

LO2: Critically appraise various theoretical models of Strategic HRD and apply them in appropriate ways.

LO3: Critically analyse the key activities of the Systematic Training Cycle.

LO4: Discuss the theories of e-learning and consider their implications for HRD practice.

LO5: Evaluate the impact of HRD on other organisational activities such as Organisational Learning, Knowledge Management, Management Development and Career Development.
