Description of module content:

This module will examine the theory and practice of leadership in a changing environment. It will equip you with an understanding and critical appreciation of the role leaders play in achieving organisational success.You will be able to define leadership and develop a critical understanding of the major theories of and approaches to leadership, with particular focus on how leadership theory can inform the practice of leadership. You will identify and analyse the symbiotic relationship between theory and practice through consideration of leaders and followers and the contextual nature of leadership. You will also examine the principles of dynamic, effective leadership and develop an understanding of the role of a leader in developing organisational success through consideration of leadership development, organisational change, talent management, sustainable leadership and managing performance.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to

LO1: Critically analyse different ways of defining and conceptualizing leadership.

LO2: Critically review different leadership theories and understand the impact of leadership on followers, organisations and performance.

LO3: Identify and analyse the role of the leader in promoting organisational success through organisational change, talent management, innovation management and performance management.

LO4: Outline and critically examine the impact of internal and external influences on leadership practice.
